Promoted by the Fundació Global Nature, the meeting is the starting point of an ambitious project that Leather Cluster Barcelona will coordinate

On 7 and 8 April, Leather Cluster Barcelona hosted at the cluster's headquarters, Adoberia Bella, a working group to develop a project in the field of regenerative agriculture and traceability.

These two working days were driven by the Fundació Global Nature, the foundation dedicated to the protection of nature, with which Leather Cluster Barcelona has been in talks for more than a year to give shape to the project. It should be recalled that in April 2024 a Global Nature delegation, made up of Amanda del Rio Murillo, the foundation's technical director, and Ana Martínez Crucis, environmental technician, already visited Leather Cluster Barcelona.

Headquartered in Madrid, the Fundació Global Nature is a private, nationwide charitable and educational body committed to biodiversity, established in 1993 and registered in the Register of Foundations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment. Its founding purposes are the conservation, protection and management of the environment. The projects it develops contribute to the maintenance and recovery of habitats and threatened species, to technological innovation and to the recovery of traditional farming and livestock activities. As a charitable and educational Foundation, a good part of its projects involve environmental education, through courses, seminars, conferences, youth exchanges, work camps and the publication of research studies.

These working sessions served as the Kick-Off of this regenerative agriculture project, promoted and coordinated by Leather Cluster Barcelona, and which, in addition to the Fundació Global Nature, involves the prestigious North American environmental organisation Conservation International and major fashion and luxury brands.

On behalf of Leather Cluster Barcelona, the sessions were attended by the president, Bernat Vilarrubias, and the project directors, Mònica Santamans and Carla Vélez.

The aim of this project is to make the most of all the know-how and resources of Leather Cluster Barcelona in order to carry out a pilot test with hides sourced from regenerative livestock farming.

In addition to the working meetings, the project group enjoyed the cluster's leather ecosystem with visits to the Curtidos Badia tannery, to A3 Leather Innovation Center at the Igualada UdL Campus and to the water treatment plant of the Igualada tanning industry, IDR.

This project is an example that demonstrates how, in 2025, Leather Cluster Barcelona continues with a strategic focus aimed at offering a distinctive value proposition to its members, with various projects developed within each of the strategic lines of action of Leather Cluster Barcelona: circular economy, sustainability, talent, innovation, good practices (including animal welfare and traceability, among others), and communication, all on the basis of shared value.
