PICVISA, an innovative technology-based company and part of Calaf Grup, has obtained B Corp certification, becoming the first member of Leather Cluster Barcelona and the first company in the sorting technology for recycling sector to achieve it.

B Corp certification assesses management performance across the company as a whole and covers five key impact areas: governance, workers, community, the environment and customers. This certification highlights Picvisa’s compliance with high standards in terms of social and environmental performance, transparency and corporate responsibility.

Joan Manel Casamitjana, CEO of PICVISA, stresses that “obtaining B Corp Certification marks a fundamental milestone in PICVISA’s history. It reaffirms our unshakeable commitment to sustainability and innovation in the sorting technology for recycling sector. We are proud to lead the way, not only in technological advancement, but also in corporate responsibility, ensuring a better future for our planet and the communities we serve.”

Having obtained this certificate, PICVISA “is part of a community of more than seven thousand companies worldwide that have become B Corps”. The executive director of B Lab Spain, Pablo Sánchez, welcomes PICVISA’s entry into this group of companies, a company that stands out for “its contribution to reducing inequality, respecting and regenerating the environment, strengthening communities and creating high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose.”

Within the context of the global B Corp movement, it is worth recalling that last November Leather Cluster Barcelona began a new shared value and corporate sustainability project, promoted and funded by ACCIÓ and coordinated by the specialist R4S Group.

The project seeks to meet three main objectives: to raise awareness and train Leather Cluster Barcelona members on the shared value creation strategy; to identify and prioritise market opportunities for shared value creation in the leather sector; and to introduce and train cluster members in measuring the organisation’s social and environmental results, as well as in the subsequent identification of areas for improvement, through the integration and application of the B Corp standard (the BIA).

Leather Cluster Barcelona is an environment of competitive cooperation for promoting cross-cutting, transformative strategic projects with the aim of driving forward the ecosystem of the Catalan leather sector. The cluster is an accredited body within the Catalonia Clusters programme and has the support of Acció.
