A further step in the collaboration between Leather Cluster Barcelona and the Ubrique leather goods cluster

Next Wednesday 5 November at 7 p.m., Movex of Ubrique will present its project "I love bags: a question of leather" at the headquarters of Leather Cluster Barcelona.

Movex is the Leather Technology Centre of Ubrique and its main objective is to revitalise the leather goods industry through innovation and technological development.

Brought by Movex, this event, funded by the Strategic Planning department of the Provincial Council of Cádiz, is a sensory immersion that champions genuine leather as a symbol of quality, craftsmanship and true sustainability, as against artificial materials and plastic substitutes.

Genuine leather has no substitute. The synthetic materials that seek to imitate and replace leather are made from plastic and therefore produced from petroleum-derived compounds, a limited natural resource which, beyond the negative environmental impact during its production process, is expensive and complicated to recycle and has very poor biodegradability.

The world needs materials that are sustainable, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable, such as leather, and needs to reduce its unnecessary dependence on fossil-fuel-based plastic materials. Leather does not create microplastics or remain for centuries in landfill.

The event at Adoberia Bella will be exclusive to members of Leather Cluster Barcelona, and will feature an institutional opening and a staging that celebrates the culture, craft and innovation of leather.

I love Bags invitation

To close, there will be a farewell toast with a glass of Pla de Morei wine, to share and enjoy together an evening devoted to the value and essence of the leather sector.

This immersive experience, "I love bags: a question of leather", forms part of the cooperation process between the Ubrique leather goods cluster and Leather Cluster Barcelona. In recent years, events have been held in Ubrique and in Igualada and meetings have taken place to share knowledge between the two clusters and to deepen collaboration in fields ranging from research and innovation to sustainability, the circular economy, training and communication with the end consumer.

Ubrique boasts a leather craftsmanship that combines tradition and new techniques to perfection, enjoying recognised international prestige and working for leading fashion and luxury firms. The leather industry is the main source of economic wealth in the town, an activity that has expanded and evolved until making Ubrique the European cradle of leather goods, thanks to the work of generations of artisans and the quality of its articles, which are exported all over the world.

Leather Cluster Barcelona is an environment of competitive cooperation for promoting cross-cutting, transformative strategic projects with the aim of driving forward the ecosystem of the Catalan leather sector within the framework of Shared Value policies. The cluster is an accredited entity within the Catalonia Clusters programme and has the support of Acció.
