A further step by the cluster in the field of industrial tourism

On Friday 11 April, Leather Cluster Barcelona welcomed an important delegation from the Barcelona Bar Association (Il·lustre Col·legi de l’Advocacia de Barcelona, ICAB). The visit was promoted by the ICAB delegation in Igualada and was attended by some twenty lawyers.

Over the course of some three hours, the ICAB representatives enjoyed an educational experience of the world of leather as a whole through the leather ecosystem of Leather Cluster Barcelona.

The day began at Adoberia Bella, the cluster’s headquarters, where the delegation of lawyers attended an introduction by Mònica Santamans on how Leather Cluster Barcelona works, the cluster policies promoted by ACCIÓ, the value chain of the leather industry and the projects and strategic challenges of Leather Cluster Barcelona. In her presentation on leather and the ecosystem led by the cluster, Santamans focused on the leather sector as a key player in the circular economy and sustainable fashion.

This presentation aroused great interest among the delegation from the Barcelona Bar Association and ended with a lively, well-attended question-and-answer session.

The group of ICAB lawyers then took a guided tour to experience the leather production process live through a visit to the Curtits Badia tannery.

During the visit to Curtits Badia they were able to see leather being made live and to discover how the leather industry is a key player in the circular economy, recovering and recycling a by-product of the food sector so that it does not become waste and turning it into elegant, noble products that are useful to society.

With activities such as these visits, Leather Cluster Barcelona promotes industrial tourism, while they are also an opportunity to extend the reach of Leather Cluster Barcelona.

Experiences of this kind are key to generating a positive current of opinion about the leather sector among the public. In this respect, the cluster is an important ambassador and a significant player in tackling the great communication challenge of conveying a positive message about leather and its industry to the population in general and to consumers in particular.

Year after year, the activities, training days and guided routes organised by the cluster have brought professionals from various fields and from more than 40 countries to visit the ecosystem and the leather theme park that Leather Cluster Barcelona encompasses.
