World Leather Day – 29 April 2026 – Save the Date!
World Leather Day will be celebrated this year on Wednesday 29 April. This global campaign in defence of leather and its industry reaches its fifth edition this year with the aim of raising public awareness of the many benefits leather brings to the world and its value as a sustainable, durable, quality material.
Once again, Leather Cluster Barcelona supports the initiative and joins the celebration of World Leather Day by organising a technical and strategic event to analyse the major challenges facing the leather sector at a European level.
Under the theme “Leather in Transition: Challenges, Regulation & Circular Solutions”, the meeting will address the impact of the new European regulatory framework —including the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the Digital Product Passport (DPP), the Green Claims Directive and the traceability requirements linked to the EUDR— and how these regulations directly affect the industry.
The event will combine technical presentations and debate spaces to delve into key topics such as the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), traceability, the circular economy, the valorisation of by-products and new, more efficient tanning and finishing technologies.
The aim is to create a space for shared reflection to strengthen the positioning of leather as a circular, responsible and competitive material within the new European industrial context.
The full programme and speakers for the event organised by Leather Cluster Barcelona to commemorate World Leather Day will be announced soon.
Led by Leather Naturally and supported by sector associations and bodies from around the world, World Leather Day, first held in 2022, has consolidated itself as an international movement to highlight leather as a material and to promote a broader, more rigorous and well-founded view of the leather industry.
Leather Cluster Barcelona is a competitive cooperation environment that promotes cross-cutting, transformative strategic projects aimed at driving the ecosystem of the Catalan leather sector within the framework of Shared Value policies. The cluster is an accredited entity within the Catalonia Clusters programme and is supported by Acció.
