The Confederación de Empresarios de la Provincia de Cádiz (CEC), within the framework of the Dipuactiva 2023 project, organised on 13 July a sustainability event aimed at professionals and companies in the sector in the province of Cádiz.
The training session took place at Movex, the Leather Technology Centre located in Ubrique. Movex's main objective is to revitalise the leather goods industry through innovation and technological development.
The centrepiece of this sustainability event for the leather sector was a Master Talk by Jordi Vidal, executive director of Leather Cluster Barcelona. In a highly instructive knowledge session, backed by all manner of data and illustrated with a range of examples, the cluster's director highlighted why leather is an example of the circular economy and sustainable fashion.
Before an audience of business leaders who showed keen interest, Jordi Vidal used his talk to answer questions such as: is leather a sustainable material? Is the leather industry environmentally friendly? Do vegan leathers exist? What does the term eco-leather mean? Can leather be recycled? Among others.
This sustainability event in Ubrique represents a further step by Leather Cluster Barcelona in working proactively on communication with the aim of playing its part in meeting the great communication challenge of reaching the general public and consumers in particular, especially when it comes to helping to spread awareness of the essential role of the leather tanning industry in the Circular economy, as a player that adds value to a by-product, namely hides, resulting from meat consumption by the bulk of the population, which would otherwise be waste, thereby improving, through actions such as this one, the image of leather and its industry.
A ripple-effect strategy with the aim of communicating with the world, working from local action to global, in order to make contact with and reach every audience. Generating content to inform society that can also be used by other associations and stakeholders in the leather sector everywhere to reach society at large.
For some time now the Ubrique leather goods cluster and Leather Cluster Barcelona have been building synergies and forging collaborations in fields ranging from research and innovation to sustainability, the circular economy, training and promotion.
Leather Cluster Barcelona is an environment of competitive cooperation for promoting cross-cutting, transformative strategic projects with the aim of driving forward the ecosystem of the Catalan leather sector. The cluster is an accredited entity within the Catalonia Clusters programme and has the support of Acció.
