Leather Cluster Barcelona takes centre stage at Experiències Sostenibles

Last Thursday, 17 June, the cluster took part in the first session of the Experiències Sostenibles series at Espai Guasch in Capellades.

Experiències Sostenibles was born out of widespread concern and interest regarding the environment and sustainability. It is an inclusive, open project that aims to become a space for reflection and debate in order to raise awareness and promote sustainability actions and projects.

In line with society’s demands, Experiències Sostenibles seeks to raise environmental and ecological awareness, giving a voice to and amplifying the message of those practices that have a direct, positive effect on the environment: from sustainable business projects and initiatives to help care for nature, to actions that respond to ecological concerns surrounding consumption.

Moderated by Benet Iñigo, head of society news at RAC1, Experiències Sostenibles will consist of a series of participatory sessions in which two or three guests will present initiatives and projects relating to sustainability, nature and the environment that can serve as an example and inspiration both for the community and for the business community.

This first meeting, which brought together more than 40 people, revolved around sustainability and zero waste, and featured as speakers Pablo Osorno of SEIC SL, an engineering firm specialising in environmental matters which has developed various zero-waste projects for the paper industry, and Jordi Vidal, executive director of Leather Cluster Barcelona.

In the opening presentation, Pablo Osorno presented an initiative on paper waste, and Jordi Vidal set out various examples of the transformation of waste into resources on which Leather Cluster Barcelona is working.

During the speakers’ contributions it was stressed that we are at a moment of paradigm shift that calls for a positive outlook: what one sector discards can be the raw material of another. The waste from a production process can have a second useful life, being valorised as raw materials for other industries or processes.
