In an interview on Canal Taronja, Mònica Santamans reviews the cluster’s mission, vision and objectives
This December, the director of Leather Cluster Barcelona, Mònica Santamans, was the guest on Canal Taronja’s programme l’Apunt.
In an interesting interview, Santamans shared the cluster’s strategic vision and its commitment to the leather sector and to all its members, as a driver of collaboration and shared growth.
Along these lines, Leather Cluster works by taking into account the current and future needs of its member companies, with a clear focus on results, competitiveness and collective impact. The development and implementation of collaborative, cross-cutting projects in a range of fields have consolidated Leather Cluster Barcelona as an indispensable platform for the innovation, internationalisation and sustainability of the Catalan leather sector.
During her appearance, the director reviewed the current reality of Leather Cluster Barcelona, today made up of some 80 companies and players from the leather industry value chain across Catalonia. Based in Igualada, with its headquarters at the Adoberia Bella, the cluster spans everything from livestock farming and the food industry, tanneries, universities and research, through to chemistry, sustainability, design, craftsmanship, leather manufacturing and fashion.
On the Canal Taronja programme, Mònica Santamans spoke about specific objectives, priority areas of action and approaches for broadening the value the cluster offers its member companies and strengthening the positioning of Leather Cluster Barcelona, both nationally and internationally. She also set out the main lines of the Master Plan for the 2025-2030 period, to address the strategic challenges facing Leather Cluster Barcelona in areas such as the circular economy, sustainability, innovation and communication and image, among others.
In her contribution, the cluster’s director also championed leather and its industry as a benchmark for the circular economy. Santamans explained that hides are a by-product arising from meat consumption, and that the leather industry recovers and recycles this by-product so that it does not become waste, upgrading it into elegant, fine products that are useful to society.
In this regard, this interview is a further step by Leather Cluster Barcelona in working proactively on communication with the aim of explaining leather and its industry to society as a whole.
