On Wednesday 15 February, a delegation from LCI Barcelona visited Leather Cluster Barcelona to immerse itself in the world of leather through active learning that combined guided visits with a master class.

LCI Barcelona is the most international design and visual arts school in the Catalan capital thanks to the 23 campuses across 5 continents belonging to the Canadian network LCI Education, of which it is part. Founded in 2013 following the partnership between LCI Education and the Escola de Moda Felicitat Duce, LCI Barcelona is a leading higher education school in the field of design training that attracts students from all over the world.

Led by lecturer Paola Cirelli, the young students on LCI’s master’s degree in bag and footwear design were able to immerse themselves in Igualada’s leather ecosystem, in a tailor-made training day covering the nature, structure, production processes, properties and characteristics of leather, which also included visits to the Badia and Miret tanneries, the IDR water treatment plant and the Adoberia Bella, headquarters of Leather Cluster Barcelona.

The intensive day was very highly rated by LCI Barcelona students and made a very positive contribution to their learning. This training will continue in the coming weeks with a further session, this time focusing on the leather sector as a key player in the Circular Economy and Sustainable Fashion.

Through these training activities combining practical and theoretical knowledge and aimed at young students, Leather Cluster Barcelona seeks to promote knowledge of leather in order to encourage its use and application in the designs and creations of these future fashion professionals.

Leather Cluster Barcelona is an environment of competitive cooperation for promoting cross-cutting, transformative strategic projects with the aim of driving forward the ecosystem of the Catalan leather sector. The cluster is an accredited body within the Catalonia Clusters programme and has the support of Acció.
