On Friday 21 June, the cluster held its 2024 Ordinary General Assembly at the Adoberia Bella with a good turnout of members from different parts of Catalonia.

Chaired by its president, Bernat Vilarrubias, and led by Mònica Santamans, project manager, accompanied by Jordi Vidal, executive director of the cluster, the assembly reviewed the extensive programme of activities carried out during 2023.

In the same way, it recalled the various projects developed within each of Leather Cluster Barcelona’s strategic lines of action: circular economy, sustainability, talent, innovation, best practices (including animal welfare and traceability) and communication, all on the basis of shared value.

On this point, it is worth highlighting the active participation of the members, who contributed their experiences of the various projects in which they are involved.

At this assembly, the cluster’s management wished to underline the intensity of the strategic cooperation with value chain stakeholders, which takes shape in the development of activities and projects. Collaboration in cluster terms with stakeholders such as La Gaspar, IDR, A3 Leather Innovation Center UdL and the Museu de la Pell d’Igualada, among others, energises the action plan and makes a decisive contribution to Leather Cluster Barcelona achieving its strategic objectives.

The financial report was then presented, after which its management and the accounts for the 2023 financial year were approved. The actions and projects planned for 2024 and the annual budget were also approved.

As regards projects, in 2024 Leather Cluster Barcelona is continuing with a strategic focus aimed at delivering a distinctive value proposition to its members.

In the strategic area of the circular economy, for example, the cluster’s vision is to lead the adoption of maximum circularity in the management of waste and by-products. The objective is to obtain secondary raw materials with high added value, avoiding the use of landfill in the medium term.

In this respect, this year the cluster is continuing to work on major projects such as Re-Genera (ReGrasPro) and Corium, and ReBioenergia (biodegradability-compostability).

Leather Cluster Barcelona is an environment of competitive cooperation for promoting cross-cutting and transformative strategic projects with the aim of driving forward the ecosystem of the Catalan leather sector within the framework of Shared Value policies.
