Sont is general manager of Pyton, a member company of Leather Cluster Barcelona

The Spanish Association of Leather Goods Manufacturers (ASEFMA), at its general assembly, appointed Josep Sont Colomer as its new president, replacing Félix Bellido, who had held the position for the past 27 years. Following the handover, Bellido will become honorary president.

At 35 years of age and with more than ten years of experience in the sector, Sont Colomer heads the company Pyton, a member of the cluster and a family business that is a leader in the marketing of leathers for the fashion and upholstery sectors.

A graduate in economics from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and holder of an EMBA from IESE Business School, the new president is leading the generational renewal of the leather goods sector in Spain. In addition, with his new appointment he will also join the advisory committee of the Momad fashion fair, whose next edition will be held at Ifema Madrid from 7 to 9 February 2025.

Josep Sont will thus lead the leather goods sector over the coming years, together with the new board of directors, which includes Jordi Serra, general manager of Sominemi. Sominemi is also a member company of Leather Cluster Barcelona and has taken part in the latest editions of the cluster’s project La Pell del Rec.

Josep Sont and Jordi Serra are taking part in a strategic project led by Leather Cluster Barcelona with the aim of identifying and developing opportunities to strengthen the competitiveness of the section of the leather value chain in Catalonia focused on design, craftsmanship, fashion and manufacturing. This project places the emphasis on these key areas in order to build on the sector’s strengths, promote collaboration among its players and increase the international profile of products designed and made in leather in Catalonia. The initiative forms part of the cluster’s overall strategy, geared towards fostering the competitiveness of member companies through shared value.

The leather goods industry in Spain is made up of 1,667 companies and provides employment for around 20,000 people. Output of the Spanish leather goods sector in the 2023 financial year amounted to 2,434 million euros.
