On 6 November, the cluster's members had the opportunity to enjoy the event “I Love Bags – A Question of Leather”, held at the headquarters of Leather Cluster Barcelona, Adoberia Bella. This initiative highlighted the tradition, the craft and the identity of Ubrique's leather goods industry. Organised by Movex, the benchmark technology centre of the Cádiz municipality, the event offered an immersive experience that traces the history of one of the areas with the greatest international recognition in the production of leather articles.
The performance stood out for its ability to champion leather as a natural, durable and sustainable material, in contrast to plastic and other alternatives that are less respectful of the environment.
If we really care about the environment, we will choose leather instead of synthetic materials. Leather has a far lower environmental impact than synthetic materials, mainly for three reasons: it is a renewable and sustainable resource, it is biodegradable and its wastage is minimal.
The world needs materials that are sustainable, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable, such as leather, and needs to reduce its unnecessary dependence on plastic materials based on fossil fuels. Leather does not create microplastics, nor does it remain for centuries in the seas or in landfills.
Through a visual and emotional narrative, the immersive experience “I Love Bags – A Question of Leather” highlighted the importance of preserving the craft trades and the productive culture that have made Ubrique a pole of excellence within the sector.
This event forms part of the long history of collaboration between Movex and Leather Cluster Barcelona, a relationship consolidated over the years thanks to the constant exchange of ideas, knowledge and joint projects.
The cooperation will continue to grow with a new event in preparation, in which the performance will incorporate the history and the advances of the sector driven by Leather Cluster Barcelona, offering a renewed look at the evolution of leather and its future.
At the end of the event, all those attending highlighted the essence of leather and made the case for the use of leather for a more sustainable future, raising a toast with a glass of wine from Pla de Morei, family-heritage winegrowers of the Anoia committed to their land and to tradition.
“I Love Bags – A Question of Leather” was a creative, inspiring day of mutual learning, in which experiences and visions were shared between the professionals of the Ubrique leather goods cluster and those of Leather Cluster Barcelona.
Leather Cluster Barcelona is an environment of competitive cooperation for promoting cross-cutting, transformative strategic projects with the aim of driving the ecosystem of the Catalan leather sector within the framework of Shared Value policies. The cluster is an entity accredited under the Catalonia Clusters programme and is supported by Acció.
