Excellent turnout at the children’s leather workshops
To mark Rec Stores, Leather Cluster Barcelona, with the collaboration of REC.0 and Igualada Town Council, has organised for the second time a children’s workshop to discover and play with leather.
The workshops, which formed part of the cultural programme of Rec Stores, are part of Leather Cluster Barcelona’s project to promote the world of leather and are intended to spread knowledge of it among children aged 3 to 12.
Hide is a by-product of the food industry that the tanning industry transforms into a useful product of value to society. Used for clothing, footwear and shelter, leather has its origins in the very beginnings of humankind. Today, leather is very much present in our daily lives in a variety of articles such as jackets, belts, handbags, shoes, wallets, purses and technology accessories, among others, a clear example of the valorisation of a waste product from the food industry within the Circular Economy.
The Adoberia Bella, headquarters of Leather Cluster Barcelona and located in the heart of the Rec district, hosted the Leather Workshop led by Sandra Sayavera with the collaboration of laGaspar, the municipal school of art and design of Igualada.
The Leather Workshop had two areas, one for an activity aimed at children and guided by monitors, and a second area for activities supervised directly by parents.
Over the 4 days of REC 0.20, almost 100 children were able to enjoy leather-based crafts and games.
Leather Cluster Barcelona is the global, cross-cutting network made up of some 50 companies and organisations from the value chain of Catalonia’s leather industry. The cluster has its capital in Igualada and its headquarters at the Adoberia Bella, the European Interpretation Centre for Quality Leather.
Within a unique cooperation ecosystem of business, education and science built around leather, Leather Cluster Barcelona has as its main objective to bring together, coordinate and energise the efforts of all the companies and stakeholders of the Catalan leather sector, in order to increase their competitiveness, improve their efficiency and drive the growth of their joint business.
