The aim of this edition was to create creative proposals based on the reuse of finished leather offcuts
XtremKuir is a week of innovation and creativity, organised by La Gaspar, that seeks to bridge different disciplines (design, craftsmanship, leather, fashion, communication, technology, new materials…). A well-established initiative of the La Gaspar Municipal School of Art and Design in Igualada, which this year has focused on sustainability, innovation and research and development (R&D) in the leather and leather goods sector.
For one week, students from all the vocational training programmes work intensively in teams in order to solve a project. The theme of this 7th edition was to explore new paths and put forward creative proposals for the accessories and fashion sector in relation to the reuse and use of finished leather offcuts. The students took on the challenge of transforming surplus leather into new products with an ecodesign and circular economy approach.
Reusing leather offcuts is both a challenge and an opportunity to innovate and provide sustainable solutions within the leather goods industry. This initiative not only helps to reduce waste, but also encourages a new way of thinking about design and production.
The reuse of finished leather offcuts is a project that La Gaspar is developing together with Louis Vuitton and Leather Cluster Barcelona (LCB). This project falls within the principles of the circular economy and shared value led by LCB, with the aim of giving a second life to the leather surpluses generated by the leather goods industry.
This edition of XtremKuir produced spectacular proposals. The students worked on the creation of new, innovative products, exploring new applications and processes and transforming these materials into designs with added value.
With this edition of XtremKuir Week, La Gaspar reaffirms its role as a benchmark in specialised training in leather, fashion and design, fostering collaboration between students, professionals and companies in order to face the challenges of the future with creativity and responsibility.
Leather Cluster Barcelona is an environment of competitive cooperation for promoting cross-cutting, transformative strategic projects with the aim of driving the ecosystem of the Catalan leather sector within the framework of Shared Value policies. The cluster is an entity accredited under the Catalonia Clusters programme and is supported by Acció.
