As every year, the La Gaspar municipal school of art and design in Igualada has held its open day. This Saturday 9 March, more than 100 people visited the school’s facilities and attended the information talks about its educational offering of professional design studies. The school currently offers two training pathways: a graphic and audiovisual design pathway and a leather design pathway. In the graphic design pathway students can take the intermediate cycle in Assistance with printed graphic products and the higher degrees in Advertising Graphics and Audiovisual Graphics (in 3×2 mode). In the leather design pathway students can take the intermediate cycle in Craftsmanship of leather accessories and the higher degree in Leather Techniques. It is worth noting that La Gaspar is the only school in Catalonia offering regulated studies with an official qualification in the field of leather design.
Those attending were able to see samples of work produced by students on the various courses, both in graphic design and in leather neo-craftsmanship, as well as to receive information about the possible career paths and the high rate of employment that these studies currently enjoy.
The day was a good opportunity to see the new machinery acquired for the leather workshop this academic year. These are latest-generation digital sewing machines and machines specifically for working with leather, similar to those used by the leading companies in the leather goods and leather manufacturing sector. The aim of this investment is for students on the leather courses to be familiar with the technology of today’s production processes and to acquire the professional skills that will enable them to enter the world of work successfully.
The La Gaspar municipal school of art and design in Igualada stresses that these professional studies in leather work, unique in Catalonia, have a relevance that goes far beyond the educational sphere, because they have an impact on the industrial fabric and on the territory, which will become an international benchmark in the field of leather design and neo-craftsmanship.
Leather Cluster Barcelona supports the La Gaspar leather design studies in the conviction that the commitment to neo-craftsmanship strengthens the cluster’s ecosystem of business cooperation and boosts the leather sector.
