Creative leather workshops from Leather Cluster Barcelona every Friday and Saturday

Once again this year, the museum is joining Igualada Town Council’s initiative to provide thermal comfort and rest areas for the population during this summer, in which extreme weather episodes are expected.

The Museu de la Pell d’Igualada is joining Igualada Town Council’s Climate Shelter Network with a rest area, a children’s corner and an extensive programme of workshops.

You will find it in the museum’s exhibition hall and it will be open from 11 July to 24 August, with an extensive programme of workshops on Fridays and Saturdays and on the days of the Festa Major.

Every Friday and Saturday, as well as on the days of the Festa Major, workshops will be offered for families and for the general public, highlighting leather craftsmanship and a trade deeply rooted in the city’s history and present. One example is a leather workshop to make Midori travel covers designed by the master artisan Sandra Quílez of Nquart Leather.

Visitors will be able to see various designs devised by leather artisans: special, unique pieces made with Igualada leather donated by Leather Cluster Barcelona, which they will be able to make with their own hands.

In the children’s corner, children will have games and storybooks at their disposal, while the rest area will offer reading material related to culture, heritage and the city, and visitors will be able to drink water to cool down.

With initiatives such as these, the Museu de la Pell reaffirms its commitment to the local area and to the values of education, sustainability and innovation. Alongside Leather Cluster Barcelona, the Museum is becoming a space for the living transmission of tanning heritage and for promoting culture as a tool for community transformation.

The creative leather workshops are a further step in the cluster-based collaboration between the Museu de la Pell d’Igualada and Leather Cluster Barcelona. Experiences of this kind are key to generating a positive current of opinion about the leather sector among the public.
