The cluster delivers training in Ubrique for the Confederación de Empresarios de Cádiz on Leather, the Circular Economy and Sustainable Fashion
On 27 September, the executive director of Leather Cluster Barcelona, Jordi Vidal, delivered a training session entitled Leather: origin, current situation and future challenges, for the Confederación de Empresarios de Cádiz in Ubrique.
The training session took place at Movex, the Leather Technology Centre located in Ubrique. The main aim of Movex is to revitalise the leather goods industry through innovation and technological development. Its more than 4,500 square metres house companies set up by entrepreneurs working in the manufacture of leather goods and the ancillary industry.
The town of Ubrique has a long tradition in the leather goods sector and over the years has concentrated a significant number of companies specialising in the production of leather bags and other leather goods, forming a genuine leather cluster.
The session on understanding the leather sector delivered by Jordi Vidal took the form of a learning journey through consumer sociology, the history of leather, the circular economy, sustainable fashion and shared value, based on the experience of Leather Cluster Barcelona.
The aim of this training session held in Ubrique was to show how Spanish consumers perceive the leather industry, to provide food for thought on the contradictions and realities of today’s society regarding products made from leather, and to take a journey through the history of humanity in order to remember where we come from, understand the current context and sketch out the future on the horizon.
In a session that aroused great interest, the business people of Cádiz were able to immerse themselves in the leather ecosystem, in a tailor-made training day with a narrative running from leather and the circular economy through to sustainable fashion.
Leather Cluster Barcelona is a competitive cooperation environment for promoting cross-cutting, transformative strategic projects with the aim of driving forward the ecosystem of the Catalan leather sector. The cluster is an accredited body within the Catalonia Clusters programme and has the support of Acció.
