International collaboration agreement between Leather Cluster Barcelona and I.CE.C

They will join forces to cooperate on traceability, quality and sustainability

Leather Cluster Barcelona, the global, cross-cutting network made up of some 50 companies and entities from the value chain of Catalonia's leather industry, has signed a collaboration agreement with I.CE.C, the quality certification institute for the leather sector.

Promoted by the Italian tanning industry, I.CE.C is a world-leading institute in certifications specialising in leather. Italy has the largest leather industry in the world, with close to 18,000 workers and 1,200 tanning companies generating an aggregate turnover of 4.9 billion euros.

The collaboration agreement between Leather Cluster Barcelona and I.CE.C seeks cooperation on international projects to promote certification of the traceability of the origin of leather and raw materials, and the continuous improvement of sustainability.

The Igualada-UdL University Campus and the A3 Leather Innovation Center will take part in the development of these projects, as the centres that provide training, research and innovation to Leather Cluster Barcelona.

A3 Leather Innovation Center UdL, the technology partner of Leather Cluster Barcelona, is key to innovation in new articles and to the environmental sustainability of products and processes. In a modern facility with laboratories, a pilot plant and state-of-the-art equipment, a group of 30 experts and doctorate holders in various scientific and technological fields promotes international R&D projects connecting the main players in the leather industry value chain. Researching and developing new technologies with a cross-cutting approach and implementing new strategies for sustainable production, A3 Leather Innovation Center UdL is working on a global circular economy project with leather stakeholders and fashion brands from all over the world.
